Approve an identified sample against agreed criteria. A photograph alone is not a complete appearance or performance specification.
Identify exactly what you are reviewing
Begin with the model code, component set and artwork revision. Check which parts of the sample represent the intended production direction and which are temporary. A useful approval note describes the sample rather than relying on ‘the one we saw last week’.
Ask whether the review covers appearance only or also includes the assembled pack. Keep questions about structure, formula contact and product function visible as separate items.
Review color, artwork and finish separately
Decoration combines multiple choices. HCP’s own creative material separates color, patterns, typography and finishing techniques when presenting packaging directions. For your review, turn those visual elements into a checklist that can be discussed one by one.

- Compare color against the agreed physical or coded reference.
- Check logo position, orientation, size and spacing.
- Read small text and inspect boundaries between decorated areas.
- Review the intended gloss, matte or metallic appearance on each component.
- Note which differences are acceptable and which require a revised sample.
Agree the viewing and handling conditions
Ask how the sample should be compared and handled during review. Record the reference used and keep photographs as supporting notes, with the physical sample identified wherever possible.
If appearance retention is important to your project, discuss the relevant handling or product-contact evaluation with the supplier. Agree the method and acceptance criteria for the selected pack rather than assuming one finish will perform identically in every use case.
Close the review with a written decision
Use a simple result: approved, approved with stated limitations, or revision required. Link every requested change to the relevant component and artwork file. Confirm who can authorize the next stage.
Keep the approval note, sample identifier and final artwork together. If the model, material or finish changes later, ask which parts of the approval need to be revisited.
Product specifications, available configurations and approval steps must be confirmed for your selected MCPA model.
