Keep creative references and confirmed specifications separate. Both belong in your brief, with open questions clearly identified.
Explain the launch in a few lines
Introduce the product category, intended market and launch window. Tell your supplier whether the project extends an existing collection or introduces a new packaging direction. This context helps frame the questions without turning the brief into a long brand presentation.
Include estimated quantities by model, color or artwork version. If the quantity is still an estimate, label it that way and ask what information is needed for a useful quotation.
Annotate the reference image
A single reference may contain several ideas: a shape, a color, a metallic accent or a particular opening experience. Mark the elements you want to discuss and explain which are essential. Avoid asking the supplier to interpret every detail as a fixed requirement.
If you select a model from the MCPA collection, include its code. Keep that same code on artwork notes, sample requests and follow-up messages so the discussion stays attached to one structure.
- Preferred model code and any alternative candidates.
- Component-by-component color and finish direction.
- Logo dimensions, orientation and proposed print position.
- The details that can change and those that must be preserved.
Separate confirmed inputs from open questions
List capacity, dimensions, component materials and accessory requirements as separate fields. Leave an unknown value open rather than copying it from a visually similar product. Ask who will confirm each point and what drawing, sample or project review is needed.
For a filled product, bring the filling partner into the discussion early. Record the formula format and filling information that can be shared, and identify any review that needs to happen before the pack is approved.
Keep one revision record
Give the brief a revision name and update date. When you change the artwork, quantity or component selection, note the change and ask the supplier to confirm whether it affects the existing quotation or sample plan.
The downloadable brief on this page provides a starting structure. Complete what you know, mark the remaining questions and send it with the model code and your visual references.
Product specifications, available configurations and approval steps must be confirmed for your selected MCPA model.
